TOURING SKI BOOTS: PERFECT FOR THE ASCENT

The ski boot is the link between your feet and your skis and is therefore one of the most important pieces of equipment. In terms of your well-being and fun factor, the touring ski boot plays a paramount role. Improperly fitting shoes can quickly lead to painful feet and unpleasant pressure points and spoil your enjoyment of every tour. That's why you should choose your touring ski boot carefully, take your time and, above all, don't look at the price. Especially when it comes to your health, it's wrong to save money in the wrong place.

THE ADVANTAGES OF MODERN TOURING SKI BOOTS

Touring ski boots are made for touring. In them, ambitious athletes often manage 2,000 metres of altitude and more. You have to master the ascent in them and keep your balance when making turns through wet deep snow. A firm grip is indispensable for this. Thanks to modern technologies, touring has become much easier nowadays. New types of construction and the invention of innovative composite materials have improved comfort considerably. With significantly less weight, the downhill performance is overwhelming. If you look for a suitable model in our range, you will also soon discover that not all touring ski boots are the same. You can order an extremely lightweight model in a minimalist design as well as solid freeride boots.

THE ALL-ROUNDER AMONG TOURING SKI BOOTS

Most touring skiers opt for a compromise between lightness and functionality and choose a practical freetour ski touring model. The ratio of ascent and descent comfort is pleasantly balanced here. These are the advantages of the classic all-round boot. The construction is similar to that of a conventional alpine ski boot. Three to four buckles are common. Many modern models have a new type of tongue and shaft construction. The shell is slightly thicker and very robust. A soft and warm inner padding provides extra comfort. Strongly ascent-oriented, on the other hand, are the featherweight speed touring ski boots, which are made for a discipline that is more like skiing. Here there are usually no more than two, maximum three buckles. Materials such as grilamid and carbon fibre make the robust shell extra light.

THIS IS IMPORTANT WHEN BUYING TOURING SKI BOOTS

When buying boots, you should pay attention to sufficient shaft rotation. This refers to the mobility between the shaft and the boot, especially when climbing. The higher the rotation, the more flexible the boots and the more comfortable the ascent will ultimately be. Even snow-free and flat passages can be mastered much better in a ski boot with sufficient shaft rotation. Another important criterion is the angle of lean. This defines the shaft position in downhill mode. There are touring ski boots where you can adjust the angle. The greater the angle, the more biting the touring ski is on the descent. You should also pay attention to the flex. This indicates how stiff your ski is towards the front. A high flex creates a stable and stiff boot, which is especially pleasing on the downhill.

THE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF TOURING SKI BOOTS

When it comes to ski boots for touring, it's like any special equipment for a particular discipline: in their specific area, touring ski boots are unbeatable, but in every other category they show weaknesses.
