THE CLASSIC ON THE TENNIS COURT
Uniform white was yesterday. Today, tennis players present themselves in a wide variety of colours on the tennis court and thus set individual accents. Given the large selection of models, it is easy to put together your outfit according to your personal preferences and wear your favourite T-shirts during the match. In addition to the visual benefits, a T-shirt offers you optimal freedom of movement and a high level of comfort when playing tennis. There are no buttons, pockets or collars that are often considered annoying. The short-sleeved top is loose and light against your skin.
THE DIFFERENCE TO THE CONVENTIONAL T-SHIRT
The origins of the T-shirt lie in the 19th century. Back then, people wore the tops as vests and later as outerwear for sports. In the 1970s it became fashionable to wear a T-shirt in everyday life, and from the 1980s the tops were ubiquitous. All T-shirts are similar in terms of cut. There are both V-neck and crew-neck garments. Otherwise, the T-shirts are short-sleeved. Spread open on a table, the shape looks like a "T", which is where the name comes from. A special T-shirt designed for tennis players differs from a leisure T-shirt in terms of functionality. As is usual for a sports garment, it allows you to make every movement and you benefit from above-average wearing comfort. A conventional T-shirt is usually cut wide and casual. There are also shirts with a close and elastic fit especially for athletes. Despite the tight cut, you can move freely because the fabric is light as a feather against your skin.
TENNIS T-SHIRTS IN DIFFERENT MATERIAL QUALITIES
The classic shirt fabric is made of cotton, a natural plant fibre. Many tennis T-shirts are also made of this skin-friendly material. Cotton is breathable and absorbs moisture, but dries much more slowly than synthetic materials. Many tennis players nevertheless feel more comfortable in cotton shirts and prefer tennis clothing made from natural raw materials. Manufacturers of sports T-shirts often use different fibres, which they combine with each other. Many models are therefore made from a high-quality mixture of natural and synthetic materials. Viscose, for example, is chemically produced but still does not count as a synthetic fibre. This light fibre is made of cellulose, a component of plant cell walls. The addition of elastane or spandex makes the fabric more elastic. Polyester and polyamide are synthetic fibres that wick away moisture well and ensure that the tennis T-shirt dries quickly. Innovative technologies create highly functional garments when the materials are composed and processed in a certain way.
THE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF T-SHIRTS FOR TENNIS PLAYERS
T-shirts are very comfortable as well as pleasantly airy and are therefore also popular with tennis players. Above all, they look more casual than a tennis polo shirt, but lack nobility. Tennis players who value a sophisticated style often prefer a more elaborately designed polo shirt with a collar and button placket.
