The right sports shoes for your sport

Athletes agree: you need the right footwear for every favourite sport. For road or forest running, extended road bike tours. For ball or team sports, for tennis or handball. In the gym or for yoga. Runners often rely on light, delicate, well-cushioned shoes. Running shoes should cushion every step appropriately and still offer stable support. For road running shoes, manufacturers usually use lightweight mesh uppers and outsoles made of rubber or durable carbon rubber. Training shoes that accompany you in the gym usually have a more stable heel area. This ensures stability when lifting weights, for example. With hiking shoes, which are available in both mid-height and boot form, the main focus is on safety in addition to wearing comfort. There are models made of leather or synthetic materials and models with a mix of both. In unpaved terrain, you need soles that are robust and chunky - and offer you sufficient stability.

In the Keller Sports Shop you will find these different types of sports shoes - for men and women:

  • Running shoes
  • Trail running shoes
  • Hiking and walking shoes
  • Training shoes
  • Outdoor sandals
  • Mountain and winter shoes

Sports shoes: Various types of shoes, different occasions

Not all sports shoes are the same. They come in countless designs - always perfectly tailored to the respective sport. Over the years, the many different manufacturers have succeeded in setting ever new standards thanks to research and the resulting technologies. Lighter and lighter, more functional materials. More and more comfortable cushioning systems. Better and better power transmission. Several innovations have even made a name for themselves worldwide. It is impossible to imagine the world of sports shoes without Nike's famous Air System as a sole technology: it consists of flexible air chambers and was originally used in basketball shoes. In the meantime, the Air technology can also be found in running, training or hiking shoes. It's a similar story with the GEL cushioning from ASICS or the Boost technology from sports goods giant adidas. In cooperation with the chemical company BASF, the Franconians have developed a sole that consists of tiny foam beads. These ensure a comfortable feeling when worn, are particularly resistant to extreme weather conditions and extremely hard-wearing. Other premium companies like Saucony, New Balance or Salewa Globus also employ teams of experts who are constantly researching improvements. Almost every manufacturer can build on its own innovations. The goal of all of them: to create sports shoes that maximise the performance of the wearer.

Sports shoes - special models for each requirement

Running shoes: The classic running shoe for asphalt or dirt roads has four important characteristics: stability, good cushioning, flexibility and a low weight. Nowadays, all jogging shoes are equipped with a breathable mesh upper. This allows optimal air circulation and thus limits the spread of unpleasant odours. Running shoes are basically designed for speed and endurance runs.

Trail running shoes: Those who prefer to run on unpaved terrain are well advised to wear special trail running shoes. They are somewhat heavier than running shoes because they have a more stable sole. Trail running shoes provide better grip on slippery stones, roots and mud. The upper material is also usually more robust to provide maximum protection against injuries.

Hiking shoes: When it comes to hiking shoes, a distinction must be made between hiking shoes and walking shoes: Hiking shoes are light, well ventilated and have strong cushioning. They are particularly suitable for easy hikes in terrain that is not too steep. Hiking shoes are somewhat stiffer, as they are mainly used on uneven terrain. Materials such as leather, nylon or a leather-nylon blend provide stability. The sole should provide support and relief and generate perfect traction.

Training shoes: Training shoes are all about first-class cushioning and the best possible energy return. They are designed for your gym or HIIT sessions and provide sufficient support during every workout with supporting elements.

Mountain boots: If you're heading to the high mountains or glaciers, you'll need crampon-compatible mountain boots. These are especially designed for safety and comfort. Mountain boots are waterproof and usually have elements that protect against rocks and scree. In addition, the sole offers extreme grip on uneven mountain terrain.
