In the last post we presented our partner adidas’ new collection for the first Tennis Grand Slam tournament of the year. Of course, adidas has also developed a shoe for the Australian Open, which will be worn by Jo Wilfried Tsonga. The new adidas Barricade 2017 Boost includes, as the name suggests, the famous Boost technology. It has been integrated into the heel and it offers athletes excellent energy return. This means that the energy poured into every step can be used more efficiently and applied purposefully to the game. The Barricade is already famous for providing great stability to the midfoot - this has been further improved thanks to the new GEOFIT construction. Optimal stability is most essential for fast side steps and sudden directional changes. The upper is made from a seamless knitted fabric that provides an adaptive fit, a high level of comfort and perfect mobility.
The adidas Barricade 2017 also comes without Boost technology. This variant will be worn above all by power players like Thomas Berdych and Dominic Thiem. Instead of a Boost sole at the heel, the Barricade 2017 has an ADIPRENE+ sole throughout. The shoe will be launched in eight different colour schemes.
Thomas Weege, Head of adidas Tennis Design, tells us about the shoe: “From the very first line in the late nineties until today, I had to improve the design process over and over and over again. The game got so much faster - 20 years ago it was a different sport. Today it is so much more dynamic, aggressive and powerful. Taking a look at the Barricade today, we’re looking at the ultimate performance piece for tennis players. All our learnings, all our knowledge and experience went into the design process of the new Barricade 2017.”
