Nike’s Zoom Pegasus Turbo is a completely new running shoe model, and it was designed to help you achieve faster speeds. The silhouette of the shoe is very similar to that of the classic Nike Pegasus, but the Turbo has significantly more power in it.

Jan, from our Keller Sports Marathon Team, has been putting the Nike Zoom Pegasus Turbo through its paces since its release. The rest of this post is a report on what he thought of the Nike Pegasus Turbo. Nike-Pegasus-Turbo-Test-Jan-Lau

Comfort and fit

The Flymesh upper wraps around the foot in a very comfortable way and works together with the Flywire laces in the midfoot area to ensure a secure fit. For a running shoe designed for fast sprints, this model has a very well cushioned heel and tongue.

It’s unlikely this construction will result in any chafing because the upper fits perfectly, Width-wise, I’d say this shoe is about average. The efficient lacing means that the Pegasus Turbo can be adjusted to fit most foot widths.

Cushioning and grip

For the cushioning, Nike has combined ZoomX foam from the Nike Vaporfly 4% with new React cushioning. The upper layer of cushioning consists of React, while the lower layer is Zoom X, resulting in a very soft cushioning effect for a sprint shoe. Nike claims that this shoe achieves 85% energy return, the current record among Nike running shoes.

The design of the outsole is very similar to the classic waffle sole and provides grip on the most common running surfaces. The sole has been kept minimalistic and has a large recess in the middle to save on weight, making the shoe very light. Nike-Pegasus-Turbo-Test-Sohle

On the road

The Nike Zoom Pegasus Turbo can’t deny its roots: when you first put it on, you get the familiar feeling of the classic Nike Zoom Pegasus. But during the test, I thought to myself: “Wow, it’s so soft!”. The first few meters felt like I was running on a sponge, something I’m not used to. After a few kilometres though, the sponginess subsided.

I followed this run up with relaxed test runs, intervals and long-distance runs. The Nike Zoom Pegasus Turbo performed beautifully during every exercise and delivered an excellent running experience. I’d say you benefit most from the Nike Zoom Pegasus Turbo’s comfort features during longer runs at a fast pace. Nike-Pegasus-Turbo-Test-Run
