As every year, Nike is launching a new edition of perhaps the most popular running shoe in 2020: the Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 37. In the development of the new shoes, Nike has worked together with various athletics professionals, such as the German long jump world champion Malaika Mihambo.
What's new in the Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 37
For the 2020 version of the classic running shoe, Nike has put several new features into the well-known and popular silhouette. Most notably, the midsole, but also the upper and design have changed a few things compared to the 2019 model.
The new midsole
The Nike Pegasus 36 from 2019 still had a Zoom Air cushion along the entire length of the foot. Nike took that out and put a Zoom Air cushion in the forefoot that is more than twice as thick.
With the forefoot you repel yourself while running and therefore need a good energy return in the shoe. The Zoom Air cushion on the Nike Pegasus 37 is also remarkable in that it is tailored to the needs of men and women. Nike has learned from surveys that women tend to prefer somewhat softer running shoes. That's why the Zoom Air element has been filled to different levels, from about 15 PSI (equivalent to about 1 bar) for women's models to about 20 PSI (about 1.4 bar) for men.
The second major change in the sole of the Nike Pegasus 37 is a development that has been noticed in recent times in various Nike running shoes, but also in Nike sneakers. The previously used Cushlon Foam in the midsole has been replaced by the lighter, more durable and responsive Nike React Foam. The entire midsole of the Nike Pegasus 37 is made of Nike React foam and encloses the Zoom Air Element in the forefoot.
Nike has also integrated an additional strap in the midfoot. It makes sure that the foot stays comfortable and stable in the shoe while running. More comfort and more safety for your run. This makes the Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 37 ready for higher pace runs or longer distance runs.
The innovation in upper material and design
The upper material of the Pegasus has also been slightly revised for 2020. The durable and translucent upper with breathable mesh inserts is particularly light and functional.al.
Even though the silhouette of the Nike Pegasus 37 has remained the same, you can recognize the new model by its design at first glance. Along the midsole, Nike has added a color gradient to the forefoot to emphasize the Zoom Air element in the forefoot. All in all it gives the Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 37 a dynamic look that makes you want to run.
For which run is the Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 37 suited best?
The Pegasus was and is an allround running shoe. You can wear it for the 5k evening lap, but you can see it in marathon races as well. When the running shoe was first introduced in 1983 it was advertised as "the shoe for every runner" and that still counts today.
Sure, there are lighter and faster marathon running shoes like the Nike Air Zoom Alphafly NEXT%, but the Pegasus' combination of cushioning, comfort, stability and durability just can't compare to other Nike running shoes.6
So whether you're a recreational runner or an ambitious athlete who wants to "eat miles", the Nike Pegasus is a running shoe you can trust over any distance and at higher speeds. Especially the 2020 version will convince you of the React Foam's newly gained energy return.
With these innovations, Nike manages to bring the classic into the year 2020 yet again. The Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 37 is just waiting to be run. What do you think of the new model?
