If you remember, we recently introduced you to the new Nike React technology. After using this technology for the Nike Epic React, our partner Nike has now launched a new React running shoe: the Nike Odyssey React. We now have this shoe in our shop and would like to take you through some of the shoe’s highlights.
The new Nike Odyssey React
The name ‘Nike Odyssey’ rings a bell, doesn’t it? That’s because the Nike Air Zoom Odyssey shoe has been around for a long time. This time, though, Nike has swapped the Air Zoom elements for a new React midsole, creating a whole new shoe. If you’re wondering what benefits there are to this new technology, read on.
The new Nike Odyssey React is a neutral running shoe for mid- to long-distance runs. The 10 mm offset ensures a comfortable and dynamic transition phase. The Nike React sole is softer, lighter and more responsive than any other Nike sole - perfect for longer runs where you need some extra energy. Professional runners have tested the shoe and confirmed that, even after running for several hundred kilometres, the React sole offers the same benefits as it did when the shoe was brand new.
Covering the Nike React sole is a breathable Jacquard upper, which has a looser knit around the forefoot area to allow heat to escape and keep your foot cool. Light foam panels around the collar area ensure your ankle is comfortable.
We now have the Nike Odyssey React for both men and women in our shop, and you have three colourways to choose from. The women’s model is available in simple black and white, in a chick dark grey with orange details and in pink. Men can buy the new Odyssey in black and white, in triple black and in red and black.
Before designing its latest sole technology, Nike asked runners of all levels what they valued most in a running shoe. The answer was unanimous: a running shoe should be light, soft, durable and responsive. Combining these properties into a single product was a real challenge. Soft materials don’t return energy but absorb it. Harder materials offer excellent energy return but no cushioning. This means that damping materials are either soft and cushioned or hard and responsive. But with Nike React technology, Nike has found an efficient way of offering you the best of both worlds.
The foam was first developed in 2017 to help improve the stability, balance and responsiveness of basketball shoes, but it was later used in running shoes too. Nike React shoes provide over 10% more energy return than other Nike cushioning materials. This is because the sole springs back to its original shape after the transition phase, even after several hundred kilometres. You’d be hard pushed to find a more durable technology out there. Lightness, robustness and responsiveness are properties that are also great in trainers, making the Nike Odyssey React shoes just as suited to lifestyle activites as they are to sporty ones.
