Enjoying some fantastic tennis matches? The first Tennis Grand Slam of 2018 kicked off last week. This means that the very best players from around the world are battling for victory in Melbourne, Australia. Last year’s champions were the living legends Roger Federer and Serena Williams. Who’s going to triumph this year?
Like every year, the sports brands have launched a new Melbourne collection to support athletes with technologies and cool-looking designs. In this post we’d like to introduce you to the tennis collection by our partner adidas. The brand with the three stripes is responsible for kitting out the player in 4th position of the World Ranking, Alexander Zverev, and the similarly talented Dominic Thiem and Jo Wilfried Tsonga.
For this year’s design, adidas has taken inspiration from the coastline and beach of the Australian city. The light blue and light yellow tones make the outfits look a bit like beach clothes, but they don’t compromise on functionality. The ClimaLite technology used in the Melbourne tops quickly draws perspiration away from the skin, just like the ClimaLite Stretch technology in the shorts. This function is perfect for keeping the players dry and light on their feet during tough matches in high temperatures.
The two new shoe models, the Ubersonic 2.0 and the Barricade Boost 2018, also follow the new Melbourne design and complete the relaxed and casual tennis outfit. “Melbourne is one of my favourite cities. I find the beach really inspiring and love playing the Australian Open each season. The adidas Melbourne Line has a casual but unique design, with the performance technologies I need to compete in the heat of the Australian summer”, says Zverev.
The women’s range comes in the same colours and with the same technologies, and it’s worn by Kristina Mladenovic, Angelique Kerber and Garbiñe Muguruza, just to name a few. Caroline Hess, clothes designer at adidas Tennis, explains: “By focusing on the mood, environment and aesthetic of the city and tournament, we have been able to create a fresh approach to tennis wear with outfits that work for the beach as well as the courts. The adidas Melbourne Line also includes our industry leading technologies such as Climacool [...] to ensure players are kept cool and protected in the sun.”
What do you think of the colourful and casual adidas tennis collection? We love it! :-)
