Every year, 275 million tonnes of plastic waste ends up in the world’s oceans! In collaboration with adidas and Parley for the Oceans, we’ve spent the last three weeks raising awareness of the issue in our Keller Sports Store. We’ve also introduced you to the latest adidas Parley collection - from the Ultra Boost through to the hoodie! But what is adidas Parley? And how does adidas Parley tackle the challenge of turning ocean pollution into innovation? Simple: by turning plastic bottles into functional sports clothes! For those wondering how it all works, we hosted a Store event in which we went through each of the six steps it takes to turn plastic waste from the oceans into textile goods, shoes and rucksacks. The interactive exhibition of the adidas Parley collection had just one motto: “from plastic waste to functional product”. Apart from sporty running and workout events, we also enjoyed the company of special guest Nannita, who led a workshop in our store!

Adidas Parley: From Threat into Thread

To kickstart the adidas Parley weeks, German surfer and activist Nannita, from Dadahplastik, gave a speech on waste management. Using a captivating presentation and lots of pictures, she painted a very clear picture of the problems and challenges surrounding this issue, and she told us about her involvement in educational work in Indonesia. We also had adidas Parley expert Matthias Amm with us throughout the event to give us an insight into the collaboration between adidas and Parley for the Oceans.

Run for the oceans with adidas Parley: every kilometre counts!

Our Isar Run group teamed up with adidas Runners during a total of five running events throughout the adidas Parley weeks to collect valuable kilometres - adidas donated 1€ to Dadahplastik for every kilometre covered. Did you know that every pair of Parley Ultra Boost shoes is made up of around 11 bottles of plastic? We’d much rather have plastic be turned into functional products than left to pollute our lakes, rivers and seas. This is why the adidas Runners Munich have joined forces with our IsarRun to do some plogging. Equipped with fabric bags and gloves, we set off for a relaxed 6 k run along the Isar - the aim wasn’t just to collect kilometres but also rubbish and plastic from the banks of the river. Despite the rainy weather, we managed to gather quite a lot of waste! adidas run for the oceans_plogging_running Another highlight of the adidas Parley weeks was the outdoor workout with coach Samy. In 30C heat and full sunshine, the participants already broke into a sweat during the workout - but that didn’t stop strength coach Samy from pushing our athletes to the limit. Planks, squat jumps and scissor kicks all featured on the workout schedule. Those who still had some steam left after the training session set off on a relaxed 6 k run to the Munich zoo bridge and back, collecting more kilometres for our cause. Back at the Keller Sports Store, all guests were welcomed with cold drinks. adidas_ultraboost_plank_workout_training

adidas Terrex tested on Isar trails

Trail running fans were catered for during our final event when they were given the opportunity to try out different models of the adidas Terrex shoes. On offer alongside the Terrex Agravic and Terrex Two Boa was the eye-catching adidas Terrex Truck. Our two superwomen, Julia and Manuela, split the trail runners into two pace groups and led them along the challenging Isar trails. TerrexIsarTrails_Web-72
