The new year has begun, and with it preparations for the first Tennis Grand Slam tournament of 2017 - the Australian Open. The tournament starts in just two weeks, which is why our partner adidas has already launched two new collections that will be sported by tennis stars like Angelique Kerber, Dominic Thiem and Sasha Zverev, among others. One collection is named after the Australian host city, Melbourne, and the other is named after the famous adidas Barricade line. To keep the athletes cool in the Australian heat, the clothing pieces in both collections are equipped with Climacool technology. This technology regulates perspiration and body temperature by providing ventilation and drawing moisture away from the body. The moisture transport system is further supported by ClimaLite technology, which is made from a combination of cotton and synthetic fibres. That not only makes the clothes lighter and more comfortable to wear, but also draws perspiration away from the skin to keep you dry. Colour-wise, the Melbourne collection is definitely inspired by the city itself. The blue represents the ocean, while the orange provides a stylish contrast. The design of the Barricade collection has also been updated to represent the athletes better.
Lotta Jurica, Design Director at adidas Tennis, explains: “The conditions of an Australian summer can present a serious barrier to the players performing their best, so we have designed the collection to combat this. The lightweight designs and cooling fabrics will help them keep arrayed with patterns inspired by the local environment, layers symbolizing depth of the ocean and sky combined with sun bleached print, will enable the athletes to deliver stand-out performances whenever they step out onto the court.”
