It's really happening: a self-lacing shoe. What until now has just been futuristic dreams from films is now being launched as a prototype by our partner Nike. The Nike HyperAdapt 1.0 has a sensor in the heel that activates the shoe when you put your foot in it, and then automatically tightens the laces. With two little buttons you can tighten or slacken the lacing, so it is still being handled by athletes and is not fully automated; still a big step into the future though!

Tinker Hatfield, Senior Innovator at Nike, says: “Innovation at Nike is not about dreaming of tomorrow. It’s about accelerating toward it. We’re able to anticipate the needs of athletes because we know them better than anybody. Sometimes, we deliver a reality before others have even begun to imagine it.”
