Almost 1,000 kilometres lie between Kiel and Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The car journey takes about ten hours. Direct neighbours are really not coast and mountains in Germany. And yet PYUA bridges the gap. Developed in Kiel, carried in the mountains. That's how it all began. PYUA's founding goal: to delight the outdoor market with stylish and high-quality functional clothing. But the primary concern was, is and remains the environment. Nature-caring, resource-saving and chemical-free is what PYUA wants to do, and in 2009 it became the first outdoor brand in the world to sign a cooperation agreement with a textile recycling company. Thanks to this cooperation with Wenkhaus, PYUA articles are made from 100 percent recyclable materials. The brand thus laid the foundation for its closed-loop recycling and set in motion an inexhaustible cycle for functional clothing.


Instead of putting its trust in finite resources, PYUA created a self-propelled system. This infinity also symbolizes the tilted eight of the logo, which together with the company name forms a meaningful symbiosis. "PYUA" comes from the Asian and means pure and clear. And this is exactly how the brand should proceed. Sustainability has top priority, nature and a life in harmony with it are the driving force behind the company. At the same time, PYUA wants you to fight with the elements. Wear functional clothing that protects you from snow, wind and rain in the mountains, by the sea and in the city. The result is the brand's "Mountain Nautic Engineering", which symbolises on the one hand the pursuit of nature conservation and on the other the experimentation with functional, innovative products.

PYUA searches for being the role model active. Conserving resources, minimizing CO2 emissions and waste production - all this is what the brand is dying for. But the people of Kiel want to supply breathable, warm, waterproof and windproof functional clothing at the same time. A balancing act. After all, it is the functional that often demands harmful chemicals or non-recycled materials. PYUA therefore developed its own performance fabrics, such as the ClimaLoop laminate. The company does not use any harmful substances such as FC or PTFE in the production of this innovative substance.

Instead it consists of recycled materials, can be recycled itself, but is still 100 percent breathable, waterproof and windproof. Nature is good to enjoy intensively. PYUA sees itself anchored both in the mountains and in the sea, so for every centimetre you put out in the open, you need to be well-equipped. The brand is deeply rooted in winter sports, for which you will find warming, insulating and water-repellent jackets and trousers - but never loses sight of the athletic idea. Timeless designs meet stylish colours and can therefore be easily translated from nature into the city. PYUA offers are variety, which, in combination with the environmental idea, also attracts sports celebrities. In 2008, the brand won the German ski legends Rosi Mittermaier and Christian Neureuther as ambassadors for itself. In 2016, snowboard Olympic champion Nicola Thost joined the team and then worked actively on the collection "In harmony with nature".


Sustainable products. They are PYUA's great goal. It is important that the individual materials are as pure as possible for production. This is the only way they can be reused later. In order to have an efficient system at hand, the brand developed its unique closed loop recycling. It cooperates with recycling partners and also uses existing containers for used clothing. There or directly in the PYUA shop you can hand in your worn apparel. Then it is sorted and used for the production of new products. This process significantly reduces CO2 emissions from the production of PYUA articles. For example, emissions from recycled polyester are one fifth lower than those from traditional raw materials - without any loss in quality, of course. If a part, for example a zipper, cannot be recycled, it is downcycled.
