FROM THE POST OFFICE TO DEUTER RUCKSACKS
Strong and dense, that's how Hans Deuter always imagined it to be. Nothing should make them tear, not even the letters of the kingdom. In 1898 Deuter had founded the "Mechanische Segeltuch und Leinenweberei" in Augsburg, with which he quickly made a name for himself. The quality of his cloths and linen reached the Royal Bavarian Post Office, he became its manufacturer for letter bags and sacks. From then on the name Deuter was associated with the highest demands.
TENTS FOR THE OCTOBERFEST
Deuter expanded, no longer made only mailbags from his fabrics, but saddlebags for horses, suitcases and leather goods. Also large tents of over 10,000 square meters, which would later stand on the Theresienwiese in Munich, at the famous beer festival in September. During this time Deuter also began to increasingly produce tornisters, backpacks and personal tents. Because of the First World War mainly for the military, in the following years more and more for expeditions into the high mountains. Especially popular was the Tauern backpack.

DEUTER: TAUERN BACKPACK IS WRITING HISTORY
It was tested in 1934 on the German Schicksalsberg, the Nanga Parbat, which rises 8,125 metres into the sky. Fritz Bechtold, one of the survivors of the dramatic expedition, then wrote of exceedingly heavy demands they had encountered and that the Tauern backpack was a high-quality alpine device. Later, after the turmoil of the Second World War, the Austrian Hermann Buhl carried it to the summit. In 1953 he was the first person to conquer the Nanga Parbat.
DEUTER CONQUERS THE WORLD
With the knowledge of having contributed to Buhl's summit victory, Deuter began a unique ascent: The company from Augsburg developed the first rucksack made of nylon fabric, soon nobody built a sophisticated and high-quality outdoor rucksack without this robust synthetic fibre anymore. The Deuter backpack is now available in all versions, whether hiking backpack, bicycle backpack, trekking backpack or child carrier - you can find the right Deuter backpack for men or women in the Keller Sports online shop.
