When the company Yonex started back in 1947, it was not selling Yonex Tennis products but rather wooden floats for fishing nets. Only ten years later came the Yonex introduced its first badminton racket to the marketback then badminton rackets were still made of wood. The main factory of Yonex was located in the Japanese city of Niigata, however their headquarters were in Tokyo. In 1963 the companys name was Yoneyama Sports Co Ltd forr the founder, Minoru Yoneynama. With the opening of a factory in Tokyo in 1967 and the production of Yonex tennis rackets, the company changed its name to Yoneyama Racquet Co Ltd. But after only seven years it went back to Yoneyama Sports Co Ltd. In 1979 Yonex opened the first Yonex Tennis Center in Tokyo, following the sucess of the two-year old Yonex Tennis Club in Niigata. A few years later Yonex started its production of golf equipment. Yonex dominates the market for badminton equipment among other things.
